Hanoi to deploy offline virtual ticket for public transport commuters

The Hanoi Public Transport Management Center will introduce an offline mode for virtual tickets starting Sept. 20, making it more convenient for the city’s public transport users.

To access the new feature, passengers will need to update the « Ve Giao Thong Ha Noi » (Public Transport Tickets in Hanoi) app, allowing them to use e-tickets without an internet connection, the center’s director Thai Ho Phuong announced on Wednesday.

Phuong emphasized that the app is user-friendly, suitable for all commuters, and ensures secure information protection.

In recent years, the center has been researching the application of digital technology in public transportation, aiming to gradually digitize operations and make public transport a more convenient option for local residents.

Hanoi currently operates 153 bus routes, including 128 subsidized routes, nine non-subsidized routes, 12 routes connecting the city to neighboring provinces, and three city tour routes. Despite significant improvements in service quality, the city’s goal of meeting 30-35% of residents’ travel demand remains a challenge.

In the first six months of this year, the public bus system operated by the Hanoi Transportation Corporation (Transerco) transported over 118 million passengers.
