Vietnam has imposed anti-dumping duties on 20 cold-rolled steel coil and sheet products from China for five years to protect domestic producers.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade stated Wednesday the duties, ranging from 4.43 percent to 25.22 percent, became effective Monday after it concluded an anti-dumping investigation commenced in September last year following requests by Vietnamese producers.

The ministry had found evidence Chinese steel producers dumped their products on Vietnam, causing a negative impact on domestic manufacturers.

It said during the investigation period China’s cold-rolled steel accounted for 65.5 percent of Vietnam’s imports while there has been an increase in the amount, although it did not specify by how much.

Vietnam imported $4 billion worth of steel products in the first 11 months this year, up nearly 9 percent year-on-year, with 54 percent of it from China, according to Vietnam Customs.
