Vietnam wants to cooperate with South Korea to produce Covid-19 vaccine
Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested Vietnam and South Korea boost cooperation in Covid-19 vaccine research and production when meeting his counterpart Wednesday.
In his talk with South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong in Hanoi, Vietnam’s minister Bui Thanh Son suggested South Korea jointly promote research and production cooperation and assist Vietnam in accessing Covid-19 vaccines to soon repel the pandemic, restore the economy and bring people-to-people exchanges back to normal, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Son also suggested South Korea create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to access the South Korean market, improve investment quality, as well as continue to promote and expand the two nations’ cooperation in labor, science and technology.
The two sides agreed to continue working closely through multilateral mechanisms like the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Mekong nations, to maintain peace and stability in the region, and to settle disputes, including those in the South China Sea, which Vietnam calls the East Sea, by peaceful measures in accordance with international law, and continue to contribute to promoting dialogue and cooperation on the Korean peninsula.
Chung, who was on an official visit to Vietnam from June 21 to 23, affirmed South Korea always attaches importance to and wishes to deeply develop relations with Vietnam, emphasizing his nation will be a close partner of Vietnam in the process of realizing its socio-economic development goals.
South Korea is Vietnam’s second largest trading partner. The country is also the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) provider in Vietnam with total accumulated capital of nearly $70 billion and more than 8,000 projects in many localities, according to 2020 figures.
South Korea in May reached an agreement with American pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Novavax to produce Covid-19 vaccines in the country.
