Man receives death for raping, killing 12-year-old
A man in the southern province of An Giang was sentenced to death for raping and murdering a 12-year-old girl.
Tran Phuoc Tan, 40, received death for murdering and raping a person aged below 16, An Giang People’s Court ruled Wednesday.
In November 2021, Tan had visited his lover’s hometown in Phu Tan District, where he attended the party of a friend whose 12-year-old daughter asked for a phone to study online.
On Nov. 6, he asked to fetch the girl to buy a phone, but instead brought her to a motel and assaulted her. Following a missing person’s report submitted by her family, Tan’s lover, aware of his actions, asked him to bring her home.
Afraid people would discover his crime, he took the girl to a mountain and killed her. Tan was caught by police after running 20 km away from the murder site.
Tan had been sentenced to 11 years in jail for child rape in a different case, which he served until September 2020
