Vietnam’s tourism branding is poor

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Some Vietnamese resorts cost millions of dollars, but they advertise themselves using bad-quality photos.

I used to work for a tourism booking platform, and was surprised to learn that some resorts in Vietnam spent hundreds, if not thousands of billions of dong establishing the facility, but were reluctant to hire professional photographers, who only cost VND100 million (US$4,080) max, to work on their branding.

I have received promotional photos from resorts which were very boring, failed to highlight anything interesting. Some even had basic errors in their tilted.

In Europe, which I have visited, even small homestays present magnificent photos and websites to promote their images.

I have also visited several craft villages in Asia, which were not very special, but their promotion was impressive.

They set up an exhibition room of the entire village with lots of details and interesting stories.

The making of the craft was also performed on site, and the visitors got to try it themselves: rolling the clay into a pot, weaving thread into a piece of cloth, or embroidering their names onto a piece of silk. It did not take much but the visitors will have something to remember about the place and talk about after they leave.

When I went to experience similar services in Vietnam, visitors only got to sit and watch. I felt redundant.

I think branding is the first step for a tourism business. If you cater to each single small experience, you will garner big results.
