Vietnamese athletes come home from Paris 2024 Olympics without medals
Most members of the Vietnamese delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympics departed without securing any medals, with only two athletes still in competition, marking another unsuccessful campaign.
On Tuesday morning, after leaving the Paris 2024 Olympics, the athletes and coaches from the shooting, archery, and badminton teams arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
The group exited the airport quietly and swiftly.
Representatives from the Vietnam Shooting Federation, officials from the Sports Authority of Vietnam, and members of the People’s Public Security shooting team were present to welcome them.
There were no fans, and only a few reporters were at the airport to cover the arrival.
Earlier on Monday and Tuesday, the first group of Vietnamese athletes returned from the Paris Olympics.
This group included coach Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong and athlete Tran Thi Nhi Yen from athletics; coach Nguyen Duy Khanh and judo fighter Hoang Thi Tinh; coach Huynh Van Chanh and cyclist Nguyen Thi That; and swimmers Nguyen Huy Hoang and Vo Thi My Tien.
The members of the Vietnamese sports delegation still in Paris include weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, who is scheduled to compete on Wednesday, and canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, who will race on Thursday.
A total of 16 Vietnamese athletes had qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Fourteen were eliminated from their respective events.
In its history, Vietnam has won a total of five Olympic medals: one gold, three silvers, and one bronze.
The country’s first medal was a silver earned by taekwondo fighter Tran Hieu Ngan at the Sydney 2000 Games, while the first-ever gold medal was claimed by marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games.
