Nearly 46,000 flights by Vietnamese airlines delayed in 8 months

Around 46,000 flights operated by Vietnamese airlines were delayed in the first eight months of 2024, accounting for 26% of all flights, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The primary cause of these delays was late aircraft arrivals, accounting for 15.6%, while operational issues from the airlines themselves made up 7.6%.

Data from the aviation authority reveals that during the first eight months, Vietnamese airlines operated a total of 176,307 flights.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines led the sector with 76,008 flights and an on-time rate of 83%.

Budget airline Vietjet Air followed closely with 75,478 flights and a 62.5% punctuality rate, while Bamboo Airways operated 9,908 flights with an on-time rate of 82.6% punctuality rate.

On average, the overall on-time departure rate for Vietnamese airlines stood at just 74%.

In August alone, Vietnamese airlines operated 22,031 flights, achieving an on-time departure rate of 75.7%. Despite this, 5,345 flights were delayed, representing 24.3% of the total for the month.

As of the end of August, Vietnamese airlines had transported five million passengers, a 3.8% decrease from July. International passengers totaled 1.5 million, up 2.3% from the previous month, while domestic passengers amounted to 3.4 million, down 6.3%.
