First solar plant in Hau Giang begins operations

The 35 megawatt Hau Giang Solar Power Plant began operating Friday in the eponymous province, becoming the first of its kind in the locality.

Vietnam’s infrastructure development consultancy and investment firm HALCOM Vietnam JSC and Japan’s renewable energy firm Shizen Energy have invested VND700 billion ($30.4 million) in the plant.

It has 79,000 solar panels and is expected to produce 50,800 megawatt-hours of electricity a year for annual revenues ofVND 80 billion.

Its investors said that they will continue expanding the solar plant to increase its capacity to 40 megawatt-peak.

In the Mekong Delta, there are several solar plants operating, including the 21 Sao Mai – An Giang Solar Plant in An Giang Province with the total capacity of 210 MWp and five solar plants in Long An Province with a total capacity of 239 MWp.
