Vietnam records 129 new Covid community transmissions
The Health Ministry confirmed 129 local Covid-19 cases in Hanoi, Da Nang and several northern provinces Saturday night, raising the infection tally in its fourth coronavirus wave to 953.
Saturday saw 165 community transmissions confirmed in the country, marking the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day since the pandemic broke out in Vietnam in January last year.
The new patients were recorded in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Vinh Phuc, Nam Dinh and the K Hospital in Hanoi and the central city of Da Nang, all related to previously confirmed patients and outbreaks.
Bac Giang recorded 85 cases, all linked to outbreaks at Japanese electronics company Hosiden and Quang Chau industrial park in Viet Yen District, which are now under lockdown.
The K Hospital, a leading cancer treatment facility, in Tan Trieu Commune in Hanoi’s Thanh Tri District, which has been locked down since May 7, recorded 13 new cases – four medical staff and nine patients.
Da Nang recorded eight new patients, all linked to previous outbreaks. They are being treated at Hoa Vang District Medical Center and Da Nang Lung Hospital.
Bac Ninh Province recorded 16 new cases, all having been quarantined following contact tracing while Vinh Phuc had four new patients related to previous outbreaks.
Lang Son recorded two cases, who were in close contact with previously confirmed patients, and Nam Dinh recorded one.
Since the new wave broke out on April 27, Vietnam has reported infections in 26 cities and provinces.
The country has recorded 3,985 infections since the start of the pandemic, including 2,668 recoveries and 36 deaths. The latest fatal case was a 89-year-old woman recorded Saturday.
Over 969,000 people, or about 1 percent of the country’s population, have been vaccinated against Covid-19, mainly frontline workers of the Covid-19 fight and medics at local hospitals.
