President Phuc discusses oil, energy cooperation in Putin meeting
Russia and Vietnam have agreed to continue their cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday told his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc that his country would continue to expand the operations of its oil and gas enterprises in Vietnam’s continental shelf in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The two leaders were meeting in the Russian capital Moscow where Phuc is on an official visit, according to a press release by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
They agreed to foster Vietnamese oil and gas companies’ operations in Russia, saying energy and oil and gas continue to be one of main pillars of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
They pledged to facilitate cooperation between the two countries in liquefied petroleum gas, thermal power and renewable energy segments.
The two leaders also agreed to speed up the institution of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center in Vietnam, saying it is one of the key bilateral projects.
Referring to regional issues, they discussed coordination in maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the Asia-Pacific, including the South China Sea, known as the East Sea in Vietnam, in compliance with international law, including UNCLOS.
