Workers in Vietnam receive US$1.24 billion in support
These include some 1.85 million workers who had their labour contracts temporarily suspended or were told to take unpaid leave.
Over 12.32 million workers affected by COVID-19 have received support of almost VND 28.2 trillion (US$1.24 billion) from the country’s unemployment insurance fund, says Vietnam Social Security.
Some 1.85 million workers who had their labour contracts temporarily suspended or taken unpaid leave, and 537,700 who had stopped working received support of VND 1 million (US$44) each, according to Vietnam Plus.
Some 1,024 employers have tapped into loans to pay the wages of 82,500 workers who became unemployed due to COVID-19. Over 2.47 million workers across 63 provinces and cities are expected to benefit from different policies for aid, training, and preferential loans, said VSS.
Vietnam has exempted employers in the country from contributing to the country’s unemployment insurance fund for their employees for a year, provided they have participated in the scheme before October 1 of this year.
