Vietnam to introduce new passports from July 1

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Ministry of Public Security will issue new-style passports from July 1, 2022, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.

The move implements Circular 73/2021/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security on passport specimens.

Each page of the new passport will be printed with spectacular Vietnamese scenery and cultural heritage, such as Hung King Temple (Phu Thọ Province), Hạ Long Bay (Quang Ninh Province), Hue Citadel, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary (both in Quang Nam Province), Nha Rong Habour (HCM City), Lung Cu Flag Tower (Ha Giang Province).

Apart from promoting the images of Vietnam to the outside world and upholding the tradition, history, geography and culture of the country, the new passport is expected to ensure technical safety and prevent counterfeiting.

From June 6 to 31, the Ministry will only issue ordinary passports for urgent cases, including those with medical treatment certificates, working decisions, or plane tickets.

On the same day, the Ministry of Public Security started launching the online issuance of ordinary passports (without electronic chips) to Vietnamese citizens, according to the Immigration Department.

Vietnamese citizens can access public administration services offered at the two Government websites dichvucong.gov.vn or dichvucong.bocongan.gov.vn to make an online declaration, pay the fee and receive their passports by post or collect them at immigration offices.
