Bamboo Airways to suspend flights to Con Dao island
Bamboo Airways is set to suspend flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to travel hotspot Con Dao Archipelago in southern Vietnam starting from April.
The airline said in a release Friday morning that it had reached a deal to terminate a contract to lease three Embraer E190 jets by the end of March.
Embraer E190 is a narrow-body aircraft that sits up to 114 customers.
After returning the jets, Bamboo Airways will partly or completely shut down flights from Hanoi and HCMC to Con Dao and Hue and from Hanoi to Dong Hoi.
Since the end of last year Bamboo Airways has been shutting down low-performance routes such as from Hanoi and HCMC to Phu Quoc Island or from Hanoi to Ca Mau Province.
Bamboo Airways in September 2020 became the first airline to operate the Hanoi – Con Dao route. Before that, only Vietnam Airlines and VASCO had routes from HCMC and Can Tho to the archipelago using the short-range jet ATR72.
Bamboo Airways is going through a major restructuring. It will have eight Airbus A320/A321 jets starting from April and plan to expand the fleet to 12-15 jets by the end of the year.
The airline has shut down all international flights and plans to resume them next year.
