1,000 employees at Vietnam’s newly-merged ministry seek resignation

Up to 1,000 civil servants, employees, and workers of Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment have expressed their desire to leave their positions, according to a recent ministry report.

As of March 6, 717 civil servants, public employees, and workers had officially submitted resignation requests, while an additional 283 have indicated their intention to resign if financial compensation is available.

Among the 717 official requests, 596 applied for early retirement, including 195 civil servants, 315 public employees, and 86 workers.

Meanwhile, 121 sought voluntary resignation, comprising 19 civil servants, 92 public employees, and 10 workers.

By March 10, the ministry had processed three retirement cases in accordance with Government Decree 178 on policies for Vietnamese civil servants, public employees, workers, and the armed forces affected by the restructuring of the local government apparatus.

The wave of resignation requests comes as the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment continues its transition following the merger of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy emphasized that the ministry has strictly followed central government directives in implementing the merger plan.

The newly-merged ministry has been operating smoothly with no major issues arising, he said.

Minister Duy emphasized the need to stabilize the organizational structure for staff following the merger.

He also called for the issuance of comprehensive regulations and work assignments for ministry leadership and subordinate units.

He stressed the importance of efforts to support staff during the restructuring and to address the policy entitlements of those seeking early retirement or resignation.
