Da Nang fines tourist firm $8,600 over environmental, food safety breaches

Authorities in Da Nang City, central Vietnam have imposed fines totaling over US$8,600 on a local company after its resort was found to have committed several administrative violations, including discharging untreated wastewater and breaching food safety regulations.

Last Friday, the municipal administration issued a sanctioning decision imposing the fine on a tourism and trading firm known internationally as Da Nang – Coral Reef Dive Center.

The decision followed an inspection of Temple Resort Danang, operated by the company, located at 11 Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District.

The inspection was prompted by mid-April complaints from residents and tourists at Phuoc My Beach who reported a foul odor emanating from the resort’s wastewater discharge pipeline.

On April 18, the inspection team confirmed that the resort had directly released untreated wastewater onto the beach.

The facility also violated environmental protection rules by failing to sign a contract with a licensed unit for hazardous waste treatment and by storing hazardous waste improperly.

Additionally, violations of food safety regulations were found in the resort’s dining services, including its hotel and restaurant operations, along with other related infractions.

Consequently, the company operating the resort was fined VND224.5 million ($8,600) for its multiple infringements.

Inspectors also required the firm to urgently remediate the environmental pollution it caused and address all food-safety violations in accordance with regulatory standards.

In 2018, the administration of Son Tra District also fined the firm VND15 million ($575) for discharging untreated wastewater into the environment, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
