Vietnamese billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong’s family launches film production company

The family of billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate, has officially entered the film industry with the establishment of V-Film Cinema Development Joint Stock Company.

The company released registration documents on Thursday.

It is headquartered at Symphony Building in the Vinhomes Riverside urban area of Hanoi, with a charter capital of VND10 billion (US$380,000).

Vuong contributed VND4.5 billion ($171,060) to establish V-Film, while other family members chipped in with an additional VND4.5 billion.

Vingroup submitted VND1 billion ($37,880), equivalent to 10 percent of the charter capital.

V-Film has registered eight lines of business, with its primary focus on the production of movies, video content, and television programs.

Other business activities include the distribution and screening of films, as well as music recording and publishing.

The company’s chairman and legal representative is Dang Thanh Thuy, who also serves as the legal representative of Cultural Investment and Development Co., Ltd., V-Culture Talents – Vietnam Cultural and Artistic Talent Development JSC, and V-Spirit Event Organization JSC.

In addition, Thuy sits on the board of directors of Vinpearl JSC and serves as its general director.

In late 2016, Vingroup established in-house animation studio VinTaTa, with facilities in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

VinTaTa released its first-ever original animated series ‘Monta trong dai ngan ha ky cuc’ (Monta in the Bizarre Galaxy) in 2018 under the direction of Nguyen Phi Phi Anh.

In November 2024, the People’s Committee of former Hai Duong Province, now part of Hai Phong City, approved Vingroup’s investment plan to develop the Thong Nhat Cinema project.

The four-story complex was set to be built during the 2024-25 period on a 457.2-square-meter site, with a total floor area of some 1,730 square meters.

The project carries a total investment of nearly VND18 billion ($684,230).
