Nha Trang bar fined $1,900 after staff threatened foreign customers with shovels
A beachfront bar in the popular resort town of Nha Trang has been fined VND50 million (US$1,900) following a confrontation in which staff members used shovels and chairs to threaten foreign customers.
The bar had been suspended on Tuesday.
Beyond the disorderly conduct, authorities found the bar had failed to register mandatory changes to its business license and was operating food services without meeting established safety requirements.
The bar gained widespread attention after a video recorded by local residents circulated online during the New Year holiday, showing a group of staff members wielding shovels and chairs against two tourists on the beach.
While the specific cause of the dispute was not disclosed, a representative for the establishment later issued an apology to the affected customers and stated that the staff members involved had been disciplined.
Nha Trang remains one of Vietnam’s most significant hubs for international tourism, prized for its scenic bay, long beaches, and mild climate.
The city’s reputation is a major economic driver. In 2025, Nha Trang welcomed approximately 14.8 million overnight visitors, including 4.6 million international travelers, generating total tourism revenue estimated at more than VND60.3 trillion ($2.3 billion).
