Vietnam : Fog causing transport disruptions, flight diversions at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi
Fog causing transport disruptions, flight delays at Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi, Vietnam, Feb. 2. Confirm flights.
Foggy conditions and heavy air pollution in Hanoi are causing transport disruptions as of the afternoon of Feb. 2. Reports indicate reduced visibility of around 100 meters (330 feet), resulting in citywide transport disruptions. All flights to and from Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi are experiencing delays or diversions to other cities, including Da Nang International Airport (DAD) and Cat Bi International Airport (HPH) in Hai Phong.
Vietnam’s National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting stated that foggy conditions will likely remain through at least Feb. 3. Additionally, authorities classified air quality in Hanoi Feb. 2 as « very unhealthy », with PM 2.5 (airborne particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 microns or less, small enough to penetrate the lungs deeply) air pollution levels at 198. The heightened air pollution in recent weeks has prompted authorities to issue advisories on the use of facemasks and minimizing outdoor activity.
Further fog-related disruptions are likely in the coming days. Heavy air pollution in Hanoi will almost certainly exacerbate disruptions. Lingering flight disruptions could occur even after the fog lifts as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs. Commercial trucking delays are probable along regional highways.
