Vietnam records 16 new Covid-19 cases

Vietnam confirmed 16 new Covid-19 cases Sunday evening, 12 community transmissions in Hai Duong Province and four imported cases.

The new patients in the northern province have been detected in Kim Thanh, Nam Sach, Kinh Mon and Cam Giang districts; as well as in Chi Linh and Hai Duong towns.

They’d come into close contact with previously confirmed Covid-19 patients and had already been quarantined or were in locked down areas. They are being treated at local field hospitals.

Three of the four imported cases were confirmed in the southern province of Tay Ninh. They had entered the country via the Moc Bai international border gate on February 14 and are now being treated at the Tay Ninh General Hospital.

The fourth imported case, a man who entered Vietnam via the Thuong Phuoc international border gate, was detected in the southern province of Dong Thap. He is being treated at the Hong Ngu General Hospital.

Hai Duong remains the biggest Covid-19 hotspot in the latest outbreak that has so far infected 849 people in 13 cities and provinces. Of these, ten localities – Hoa Binh, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Binh Duong, Hung Yen, Bac Giang, Gia Lai, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, and HCMC – have recorded no Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks.

As of Sunday, more than 16,000 random samples taken at bus and train stations as well as the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City showed negative tested results for the novel coronavirus, while 727 others are waiting for results.

With the latest cases, the nation’s Covid-19 tally has increased to 2,448 with 1,875 recoveries and 35 deaths. The current active case count is 533.
