Confirmed road to connect Gia Binh airport with Hanoi, future metro line in discussion
Hanoi has issued a decision to build a road connecting the city with Gia Binh Airport in neighboring Bac Ninh Province while studying a plan to develop a metro line between the locations.
The Office of the Hanoi People’s Committee on Monday released an official announcement regarding the conclusion of deputy chairman Duong Duc Tuan about the construction of a road connecting Gia Binh Airport with Hanoi.
They also plan to study the potential construction of a metro line linking Hanoi and this airport.
In line with the directives from the national government, the municipal administration assigned the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture to coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, Bac Ninh Province, and Transport Engineering Design Inc. to study the development of the road.
The road project is set to span over 49.5 kilometers, with nearly 28.6 kilometers of the route crossing through Hanoi.
Additionally, the two localities, Hanoi and Bac Ninh, have agreed that the road will have a cross-sectional width ranging from 100 to 120 meters, with the 120-meter option selected to accommodate future development plans.
Besides, both localities reached a consensus on exploring the possibility of building a metro line along the road connecting Gia Binh Airport to the heart of Hanoi.
Bac Ninh Province had previously proposed upgrading Gia Binh Airport into a major airport with a capacity of one to three million passengers per year, with the possibility to expand to handle five million passengers annually.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Transport gave the green light to a proposal to develop Gia Binh Airport into an international terminal.
Gia Binh International Airport will cover an area of around 363.5 hectares with an estimated capital of some VND17.7 trillion (US$694 million) in the 2021-30 period and over VND12 trillion ($468 million) for a vision to 2050.
