Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet to move HCMC domestic flights to new terminal from May
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air will shift their domestic operations to the new T3 terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City from May, airport authorities announced Thursday.
This relocation marks preparations for the official operation of terminal T3, scheduled for late April. The terminal will serve domestic flights operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air, while other airlines, including Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines and Pacific Airlines, will remain at the existing T1 terminal.
Terminal T2 will continue to serve all international flights.
According to a representative from Tan Son Nhat Airport, equipment inspections, service process evaluations and staff training have been planned to ensure smooth operation upon opening.
The new T3 terminal is set to become Vietnam’s largest domestic terminal, designed to accommodate 20 million passengers annually, raising the airport’s total passenger capacity to 50 million per year.
With a budget of approximately VND11 trillion ($431.2 million), primarily funded by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the T3 terminal project began construction in late 2022. It covers 112,500 sq.m, featuring one basement and four above-ground floors. Additionally, a multi-story vehicle parking structure covering 130,000 sq.m includes two basement levels and four floors above ground.
In parallel, HCMC has initiated the 4-km Tran Quoc Hoan-Cong Hoa road project, with an investment exceeding VND4.8 trillion ($188.16 million), to enhance access and connectivity to the new terminal.
