Can Tho to open pedestrian street this month
Mekong Delta capital Can Tho will open a pedestrian street of one kilometer beside the Hau River, a branch of the Mekong.
The pedestrian zone will be established on Hai Ba Trung Street in Ninh Kieu Wharf Park, Can Tho Deputy Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Anh said Tuesday.
It will be divided into different sections to serve the demand of shopping, dining, and enjoying art performances, including don ca tai tu, a traditional southern Vietnamese music genre, as well as organizing festivals and cultural activities.
Anh said the pedestrian street would be opened on a pilot scheme during the Reunification Day on April 30.
Arts, culture and entertainment activities will be held every Saturday evening during the trial phase, and the city will rely on actual demand to decide if they should also be organized on Sunday.
